Letter from the Editor |

Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to take a moment and reflect on what we should be grateful for in time of increasing stress and uncertainty. Heavy workloads, complex cases, and emotional demands are a daily reality with no relief in sight. Practicing gratitude can be a transformative tool for improving both professional and personal well-being despite things that are out of our control. Research consistently shows that cultivating gratitude not only boosts joy but also reduces burnout, enhances productivity, and improves overall workplace morale—crucial benefits in a field where mental and emotional resilience is vital. |
As physicians, we face intense pressure on the job, with little time for personal reflection or recognition. However, taking moments to express gratitude—whether towards colleagues, patients, or even reflecting internally about small daily successes—can shift focus away from stress and toward the positive aspects of the job. Gratitude has been linked to improved productivity as it fosters a positive mindset that drives focus, energy, and creativity.
When we acknowledge the value of our work and the value that others bring to our team, we build a deeper connection to our roles and foster improved cohesion and motivation among our colleagues. The benefits aren’t limited to the workplace, a gratitude practice can improve our personal lives by enhancing emotional health, increasing life satisfaction, and strengthening relationships. Studies indicate that individuals who regularly practice gratitude are less likely to experience burnout, as they develop a greater sense of meaning and appreciation in their lives.
Here are some resources and tools I have found that anyone can use to incorporate gratitude into daily routines:
Gratitude Journaling: There are a variety of formats available to keep up with this daily practice
Three Good Things: At the end of each day, write down three things that went well or that you are grateful for. It’s a simple but effective practice for shifting focus to positive experiences, even on the toughest days.
The 5-Minute Journal: easy-to-use hardcover paper journal that prompts you to reflect on three things you’re grateful for each morning and evening. It encourages self-reflection and positivity in just a few minutes a day.
HappyFeed: Gratitude journal app that includes a social element where you can share your gratitude reflections with others.
Daylio: A micro-diary app to track your mood and activities helping individuals identify positive patterns in your daily life.
|
Gratitude Letter: Once a month, write a heartfelt letter of thanks to someone who has positively impacted your life or career. Sending it can feel empowering, and the act itself is often rewarding.
Headspace: Mindfulness app that offers a variety of meditation and gratitude practices
Calm: Mindfulness and meditation app for gratitude, relaxation, and stress management
Grateful Living: free resources, articles and courses that encourage being fully present so that your perspective can be expanded, compassion enhanced, and purpose discovered
Greater Good Science Center: free resources, articles, podcasts and courses on gratitude,
|
"The Gratitude Diaries" by Janice Kaplan: This New York Times bestseller shares her year-long journey of practicing gratitude and its transformative effects, offering practical insights that can be applied in both personal and professional settings.
"Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier" by Robert Emmons: As one of the leading researchers on gratitude, Emmons offers a deep dive into how gratitude can improve your mental and physical health, with scientific insights and real-life examples.
Integrating one or more of these small changes, whether through brief moments of reflection or team-wide practices, even in challenging situations, enables us to manage stress both at work and at home with profound benefits for our professional and personal lives. |
Warm regards this holiday season,

Legislative Update |
 |
Happy December!
Senate President Albritton and Speaker Perez have been officially designated the newly elected members, have been sworn in, and legislative training meetings are underway. January will be the start of committee meetings and substantive legislation is currently being filed for consideration in the upcoming legislative session.
|
President Elect Trump has begun to work on his administration, which has led to a huge domino effect in Florida.
Congressman Gaetz is leaving the US House of Representatives. Gaetz’s open seat is being sought by current Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, Representative Dr. Joel Rudman, and others. With Congressman Waltz’s appointment, newly elected Senator Randy Fine is now running for his US House seat. Termed out Senator Debbie Mayfield, who had just been elected to the House, has announced her intention to run for the vacant Fine senate seat, which was her seat before she termed out. Her newly won and vacated House seat also calls for a special election.
The most anticipated domino to watch is who will be appointed to Senator Marco Rubio’s Senate seat. Will Governor DeSantis appoint himself? If he does, many more dominoes are anticipated from that decision.
During the Organizational session both leaders addressed their respective chambers. Both Leaders highlighted they would be watching closely how the insurance industry addressed their communities across the state’s hurricane claims. Our state took such a battering this hurricane season, and this year's budget will also be looking at funding to assist hard hit communities. Clearly, this will be a dominant topic during the upcoming session.
President Albritton mentioned “water quality” in his opening remarks. His focus will be on ensuring Floridians have a clean and abundantly available water supply. This will be one of his top priorities.
Speaker Perez in his remarks to his chamber made a conscious decision to not outline his priorities for the upcoming session. It promises to be a busy time legislatively in the New Year!
Stay safe and healthy and enjoy this holiday season. |
Best,
Alison Dudley Lobbyist, FRS

Become A PAC Member Today |
 |
Attention FRBMA Members! Please support the cause. We encourage you to be PAC members and supporters; you do not have to belong to the FRS. Donations can be made online through our PAC website www.FLRADPAC.org. Thank you for your donation.
It is critical that we support both our Florida PAC and RADPAC in order to bolster our voice in Tallahassee and Washington, respectively. Please join FRS lobbyist Alison Dudley in her special appeal for all Florida radiologists to become Florida PAC members. If you would like to help FRS defend radiology against untoward legislation and introduce bills that have a positive impact on our practices, we need your financial support to re-elect our friends in the state House and Senate. The FRS can also show you simplified ways on how to sign up your radiology group. Contact Lorraine Roger or contact Alison Dudley for more information. |
