Dear Colleagues,
Whether we like it or not, AI is here to stay and continues to have greater impacts on our daily lives. Some implementations have been positive and brought gains in efficiency, while others have garnered criticism. But AI affects each of us quite differently, depending on our willingness to adapt to change and whether we feel its employment adds value. |
The same heterogeneity is true for how AI is utilized in our radiology practices. Some of us have implemented AI tools, while others may be in the process of exploring what is possible. With many products now available, this selection and vetting process can be a daunting task. Picking the correct AI solution for your practice can be time-consuming and stressful, especially when software trials are challenging to execute.
The ACR can help with this challenge. The ACR Data Science Institute (DSI) offers a detailed array of resources and information that can assist you in your journey of selecting AI software or staying current with what is available. The DSI is the ACR’s dedicated hub for advancing the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into radiology, radiation oncology, and interventional radiology. The DSI collaborates with radiology professionals, industry leaders, government agencies, patients, and other stakeholders to develop, validate, and implement AI tools that enhance patient care. It aids in AI algorithm training, testing, validation, and monitoring effectiveness of existing algorithms in clinical practices. The DSI helps develop standardized pathways for implementing AI algorithms as well. ACR members can access the AI Central database, which offers the most complete and up-to-date online searchable directory of commercially available imaging AI products in the U.S., including more than 200 FDA-cleared products created by more than 100 manufacturers, to find algorithms that best support your patients and workflows. Happy hunting!

FRS President's Message |
 |
Hello Everyone!
At the national level, one item of interest occurring right now is the open field review for practice parameters and technical standards. As you may know, in the last couple of years the ACR has held a virtual meeting in the spring to address practice parameters and technical standards. That is set to continue this year as well, and the field review period for open comment on the documents is open now. It will continue until September 26, 2025.
|
This is your opportunity to propose edits and deletions, in preparation for reconciliation of divergences in the spring and subsequent adoption at the ACR annual meeting in May. You may review and comment on the 2026 practice parameters and technical standards using the link below:
https://www.acr.org/Clinical-Resources/Clinical-Tools-and-Reference/field-review
I also wish to remind everyone of our ongoing fundraising campaign for the FRS Foundation. If we reach our goal of $50,000 in donations by Dec 15, Drs. Kurt Mori and Emile Latour will each match these gifts. You may donate by clicking the link below. Thank you to Drs. Mori and Latour and to everyone who has donated thus far.

Insurance Renewals: A Strategic Lever for Retention and Recruitment
As we enter open enrollment season, many radiology practices and imaging centers are reviewing their insurance offerings. While this process can feel like an annual administrative routine, it has become a critical opportunity to influence both physician retention and recruitment. In today’s environment where the shortage of radiologists continues to challenge hospitals and private groups, benefits are more than a line item; they are a frontline differentiator.
|
Compensation discussions in radiology increasingly extend beyond salary. Candidates evaluate the overall package, and comprehensive health coverage can tip the scales when choosing between two offers. For existing team members, benefits are a daily reminder of whether their organization values them. Groups should consider benchmarking their plans against market competitors to ensure they remain attractive.
Flexibility also matters. Younger physicians may prioritize affordable family coverage, while more senior radiologists look for robust specialty or long-term care options. Offering multiple plan types, whether HMO, PPO, or high-deductible plans with HSA contributions, signals that leadership understands diverse needs. At the same time, coverage for mental health and wellness services is increasingly important as practices confront burnout, work-life balance challenges, and rising stress across the profession.
Transparency is another key factor. Out-of-pocket costs and deductibles often shape employee satisfaction as much as monthly premiums. Clearly communicating plan changes avoids surprises and builds trust. Equally important, minimizing disruptive shifts in coverage from year to year creates a sense of stability that supports retention.
Insurance renewals should not be viewed as a back-office exercise. They are a chance to reinforce your group’s culture and commitment to physician well-being. In a competitive labor market, a thoughtful, flexible, and stable benefits package can make the difference between losing a candidate or strengthening your team for years to come.

Legislative Update |
 |
September is here and we are one month away from the start of legislative committee meetings.
The Special elections in Orlando are being held today for the Senate seat previously held by Senator Geraldine Thompson, may she rest in peace, and for Rep LaVon Bracy’s House seat. Rep Bracy is running for the Senate and is anticipated to win the seat.
|
Senator Blaise Ingoglia has been appointed by the Governor to the Chief Financial Officer opening created by CFO Patronis running and winning Congressman Gaetz’s vacated seat. CFO Ingoglia has opened his campaign account and announced his intention to run for CFO.
Former House Member, Dr. Ralph Massulo, is running for the Senate seat vacated by former Senator Ingoglia and is anticipated to win. This is a center of the state seat that includes The Villages.
Senator Jay Collins, Tampa, has been appointed the Governor to fill the vacant Lieutenant Governor position. This has created another open Senate seat in the Tampa area.
It will be busy with all these special elections.
On a substantive note, the Woman’s Breast imaging workgroup had a call with Senator Tracie Davis, Jax, her staff and Jacqueline Moody with the Senate Banking & Insurance committee to improve the Senator’s bill. Thanks to all those who participated.

Become A PAC Member Today |
 |
Attention FRBMA Members! Please support the cause. We encourage you to be PAC members and supporters; you do not have to belong to the FRS. Donations can be made online through our PAC website www.FLRADPAC.org. Thank you for your donation.
It is critical that we support both our Florida PAC and RADPAC in order to bolster our voice in Tallahassee and Washington, respectively. Please join FRS lobbyist Alison Dudley in her special appeal for all Florida radiologists to become Florida PAC members. If you would like to help FRS defend radiology against untoward legislation and introduce bills that have a positive impact on our practices, we need your financial support to re-elect our friends in the state House and Senate. The FRS can also show you simplified ways on how to sign up your radiology group. Contact Lorraine Roger at lroger@flrad.org or Alison Dudley at alisondudley@dudleyandassociates.com for more information. |
